AINSDALE LUNCH & LEISURE

About Us

Welcome to Ainsdale Lunch and Leisure

Ainsdale Lunch and Leisure formerly known as Ainsdale Community Care, is based in Sefton, a borough in North Merseyside. The organisation provides meals both within its premises in our Chapel Café and a hot meals delivery service to vulnerable elderly people throughout Ainsdale, Formby and Birkdale. We deliver  a variety of activities to appeal to a wide audience focusing on health and wellbeing. These include Sequence Dancing, Art, Bowls, Tai Chi, Line Dancing, Creative Crafts and Games.

We also have a charity shop on the premises. The Charity also gives support to unemployed people with learning difficulties who contribute to the work of the luncheon club as volunteers. These volunteers are engaged in the preparation of meals by way of setting tables, shopping for various items, serving of meals and clearing away. Engagement with the project gives opportunity for them to increase in confidence and to gain further interpersonal and organisational skills. The mutual support given not only helps the project but has aided these volunteers in feeling valued, giving them a sense of belonging and providing skills that they have used to enable them to remain in independent living.

The Charity was established in 1982 by Ainsdale Methodist Church but became an independent charity in 2009. The charity is open to the community Monday-Friday from 10.00am to 3.30pm. It has four paid members of staff, 2 full time and 2 part time. They are supported by several volunteers (approximately 80) who assist in the kitchen, deliver meals, run activities, help in the office, the charity shop and with ebay sales. We are the only organisation in the area that deliver the activities outlined and currently have 215 members.

All activities and meals are available to members and non members. On average 450 people from the community access meals and activities every week. Although we charge for the meals and activities we cannot meet our overall costs with charges alone. We therefore require grants to supplement our income each year and are grateful for any donation or sponsorship. This year we are attempting to increase our membership and are actively marketing the organisation as we are aware that more members of the community are in need.

These services reduce isolation and loneliness, provide a balanced, healthy meal and support improvement in physical health as well as improving mental wellbeing. The organisation has a rigorous monitoring and evaluation system which enables us to provide effective services for the community. In our Business Development Plan, it has been acknowledged that one of the strategic objectives of Southport and Formby Clinical Commissioning Group is to “Support older people and those with long term conditions and disabilities to remain independent in their own homes” (Everyone counts planning for patients in Southport and Formby, 2013-2014, Southport & Formby CCG) through improving “Quality of Primary Care and Delivery of Community”.

We understand the importance of partnership working and the joining up of services and in line with the Public Services Act 2012, we feel that the service we offer provides social and environmental benefits to the community as a whole enabling not only older people to access a more welcoming space to contibute to their health and wellbeing but also access across the generations. Ainsdale Lunch and Leisure wish to be able to ensure that the project is able to provide the necessary advice and signposting to relevant and appropriate services and management have good links with a variety of forums and other services  in order to share information e.g. Sefton Pensioners Advocacy, Health Watch, Age Concern, Alzheimers UK, Churches Together in Ainsdale and more recently “Lets Live Well ” Project. This is in addition to working closely with the Schools in the Local Area.

With increased pressure on resources in the Public and Voluntary Sector, Ainsdale Lunch and Leisure are well placed to continue the services it provides by developing and increasing links with the community it serves as well as with the social and health services. It is anticipated through on going development of these links that Ainsdale Lunch and Leisure will continue to develop as a community hub and be relevant for a range of ages and abilities both now and in the foreseeable future.
